March Activities

  • Tuesday, March 6 at 6:00 PM, University of M-Friends Spanish 101 Class, to be held at the Shaw Campus (Dick Shaw's house), 2396 Eastwood Place. This will be a beginner class in conversational Spanish. Seating is limited so register early by contacting Dick Shaw at dickshaw@midsouth.rr.com or at 323-8520. Event is included in AG Registration Drawing. OS 
    Directions: Go to the Firehouse on E. Parkway in Overton Park. Directly across Parkway from the firehouse is Eastwood Ave, which is only one block long. Dick's house will be on the left. 

  • Friday, March 9 at 6:00 PM Dinner at - Yazoo's Restaurant, 6220 Stage (in the same shopping center with Bartlett Bowling Lanes.) The restaurant uses Mississippi stone-ground grits, Delta farm-raised catfish, Gulf shrimp, aged certified Angus beef for steaks that are hand-cut daily, home-made desserts, and pulled-pork barbecue and ribs that have won awards all over the South.   • Sunday, March 11 at 2:00 PM, University of M-Friends Class -  Working with Polymer Clay, Floam & Other Sculpting Mediums. Learn how to make jewelry, sculptures and other artwork using low-heat Polymer Clay, Floam and other sculpting mediums. At the Nelson campus, 1832 Talisker Drive. RSVP to Trisha at trisha1832@gmail.com or 901.759.1232. Classroom space is limited so RSVP early but no later than Friday, March 9th. There will be a $5 charge to cover the cost of supplies. Event is included in the AG Drawing Registration.

  • Friday, March 16 at 6:00 PM Dinner at - The Celtic Crossing, 903 South Cooper St. The last time we visited the is restaurant, we had a great turnout and we're hoping for a repeat performance. Join us and get a start on St. Patrick's Day. RSVP to Trisha at trisha1832@gmail.com by noon on Thursday, March 15..

  • Friday, March 23 at 6:00 PM Dinner at - Jacks BBQ, 5099 Old Summer Rd. This is in the same parking lot as the Pancho's where the MM Monthly meeting is held. This is another of our BBQ Tour restaurants. The best BBQ Restaurant will be chosen in April and we'll visit it again in May. Be sure to come check it out.   • Saturday, March 24 from 9:00AM to 6:00 PM 
    A  Smart Yard Sale.
    Stop by for the great buys, to help M-Friends earn money for their treasury and/or just to socialize. Many items including books, computer hardware, gifts, gadgets & gizmo's. Event is included in the AG Registration Drawing

    At Susan Hinson's, 754 Waring Rd. 
    DIRECTIONS: get to Sam Cooper, exit Perkins, hang a right. Turn Left at Summer go to 2nd traffic signal and turn R onto Waring. I'm the 3rd house on the right past the stop sign at Tutwiler. Blond brick house. If driveway full, park around the corner on Castle.

AG Registration
Drawing

Win a free registration for the 2007 Annual Gathering to be held in Birmingham, AL on July 4 – 8.

M-Friends SIG event attendees will be given one chance to enter at most M-Friend events. All Memphis Mensa members, their family and friends are welcome at M-Friends events.

Drawing will be held at the Third Annual Margarita Monday Party on May 28. Prize includes registration only and winner will be responsible for his or her own transportation, hotel room and meals. If winner is unable to attend the AG, prize may be transferred to any Memphis Mensa member.

Speaking of the AG, quite a few of us from Memphis Mensa are already planning on attending and will have several cars headed down to the Birmingham, so think about attending. If you want to share a ride or have a vehicle going and would like others to ride down with you, send me an e-mail at trisha1832@gmail.com. Let me know if you need a ride or have a seat or two open in your car. If you're interested in sharing a room with someone, let me know that too. Tell me whether you want smoking or non-smoking and anything else that should be considered. We'll try to get interested parties together. Let's make this a GROUP activity and the more the merrier!

Vroom! Vroom!

Some M-Friends members have been talking about signing up to take a class to learn how to ride a motorcycle. This will most likely be a Saturday class, held either at the Harley Davidson store on Kirby-Whitten, or at the local community college. If you'd be interested in joining us, please let me know (trisha1832@gmail.com). 

  • Friday, March 23 at 6:00 PM Dinner at - Mikasa Japan, 6150 Poplar Ave. in Regalia Center. Seafood and traditional Japanese dishes are the specialties here, where diners can, if they prefer, cook their own meals at a smokeless table grill; sushi bar also featured. RSVP to Trisha at trisha1832@gmail.com by noon on Thursday, March 22.. 

  • Saturday, March 31 alternate rain date for the Smart Yard Sale; same time, same place just hopefully dryer conditions if it rains on the 24th..
